Teacher of the Deaf
I came to Maui in June after graduating from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. My Master's of Science in Deaf Education (M.S.D.E). My degree prepared me to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing to listen and talk using listening devices such as cochlear implants and hearing aids. I specialize in teaching students to listen to the sounds in their environment, recognizing speech sounds, and expressing themselves through spoken language.
All academic content has new vocabulary, words, and sounds that require direct instruction and extra time in learning for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This is where I, as the Teacher of the Deaf, come in to ensure that all language is being understood.
